Lantern festivals held in Kawajima and Tama, Japan

Various lantern festivals are being held in the Tokyo and Saitama regions of Japan.

In Kawajima Town, the ‘Kawajima Lantern Festival 2026’ is scheduled for October 24 at Heisei no Mori Park. The event features stage performances, food stalls, and workshops, culminating in a sky lantern launch at 18:00. Free lantern-making workshops will be available for participants earlier in the day.

In Tama City, the ‘Tama Lantern Festival 2026’ took place on October 10 and 11 in the Toyogaoka and Kaidori areas. The festival aimed to revitalize the local community and highlight the charm of the Tama New Town area. The main venue, Tama Hakkakudo, was illuminated by approximately 200 colorful Vietnamese lanterns provided with cooperation from Namerikawa City, Toyama Prefecture. The event included international food stalls, handmade goods markets, and interactive art installations.
