Lanterns series reveals Hal Jordan’s dark family history

The HBO series ‘Lanterns’ has reached its penultimate episode, ‘The Jordan Boys’ Legacy,’ which focuses heavily on the psychological background and family history of Hal Jordan. Through flashbacks to 1975, the episode reveals a significant shift in the character's origin: Hal’s father, Martin Jordan, did not die in a routine plane accident but instead committed suicide, a revelation that reframes the generational trauma and mental health struggles central to the Jordan family legacy.

In the present timeline, John Stewart continues the investigation into Hal Jordan’s death using a ‘Halogram’—a digital consciousness backup stored within Hal’s power ring. This allows for continued interaction between Stewart and a younger, more righteous version of Jordan. The investigation has expanded from a grounded police drama into a cosmic scale, as the duo travels through a dark matter portal to an abandoned alien planet, encountering the devastating effects of the Cosmic Hunters.

As the season approaches its finale, titled ‘Dirt and Stars,’ new mysteries have emerged involving the character Sinestro and his philosophy regarding the power of fear. Teasers suggest the conclusion may address whether Hal Jordan can be resurrected or if his death was self-inflicted, while also exploring the potential emergence of the Sinestro Corps.
