Lanterns Season 1 concludes with a grounded take on DC mythos

The first season of the DC series ‘Lanterns’ has concluded, receiving critical attention for its departure from traditional space opera tropes in favor of a grounded, conspiratorial thriller format.

Set in a small American town, the narrative follows veteran Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and newcomer John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, as they investigate a murder that leads to an intergalactic conspiracy. The series has been compared to noir detective dramas due to its focus on ambiguous ethics and complex character relationships.

While some viewers expressed disappointment that the show did not lean more heavily into space opera elements, critics have noted that the grounded approach effectively introduces the Green Lantern mythos to a wider audience. The production features a cast including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Kelly Macdonald as a local police commissioner.
