Lanterns Season 1 finale resolves Hal Jordan murder mystery

The first season of the HBO series ‘Lanterns’ has concluded with its eighth episode, ‘Dirt and Stars.’ The finale resolves the central mystery regarding the death of Hal Jordan, revealing that Sheriff Kerry Kane killed him in an impulsive attempt to protect her son, Noah, who is revealed to be a Manhunter hybrid.

The season ends with a significant shift for John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. After inheriting Hal Jordan’s ring, Stewart declares himself the protector of Earth, asserting his independence from the Guardians of the Universe. The finale also introduces elements of fear-based energy through a lantern forged by Sinestro, fueling fan theories about a potential future adaptation of the villain Parallax.

While HBO has not officially renewed the series for a second season, showrunner Chris Mundy has indicated that a writers' room has been established to develop new stories. The series has received critical acclaim for its grounded, detective-style approach to the Green Lantern mythology, drawing comparisons to prestige crime dramas.
