Lantzville head-on collision leaves two dead
Two men died following a head-on collision on Highway 19 near Lantzville, British Columbia, early Thursday morning. The crash occurred just after 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes when a blue Kia Sedona minivan and a grey Volkswagen Jetta collided near Ware Road.
The occupants of the Volkswagen died at the scene. A 16-year-old female from Nanaimo, who was driving the minivan, was arrested at the scene. She faces charges of impaired operation causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. She was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
B.C. Highway Patrol reported that witnesses indicated the minivan was traveling north in the southbound lanes at the time of the impact. Authorities are seeking additional witnesses and dash-camera footage to confirm the exact sequence of events.
