Lanuvio, Italy faces health and fire risk from long‑standing illegal open‑air dump
A resident of Lanuvio has renewed an appeal to authorities after more than three years of inaction on a large illegal open‑air dump on Via Astura. She reports that the site is continuously used for dumping assorted waste, including deteriorating asbestos (eternit) sheets, broken aircraft parts, rubble, plastics, furniture, and metal. The proximity of the dump to homes, combined with dry vegetation, raises serious fire hazards, while the crumbling asbestos poses health risks.
Repeated complaints have been made to the local police, the Carabinieri and the municipal administration, accompanied by photographs and videos, but no definitive remediation or investigation has been undertaken. The resident urges a thorough assessment, cleanup and removal of the hazardous materials to protect the community.
