LANXESS shares rise modestly as Bridgewater expands short position
The LANXESS (MDAX) stock edged up 0.92% to €15.39 during the trading day, marking a modest gain after a period of decline. Bridgewater Associates increased its net short position on the shares from 0.49% to 0.53% of the free float, pushing the hedge fund above the reporting threshold and signalling expectation of further price weakness. Several other institutional investors also hold notable short stakes, with BlackRock Investment Management (UK) leading at 2.35% of the float, followed by BlackRock Financial Management, AQR Capital Management and additional BlackRock entities.
Analysts note that while high short interest does not guarantee downward pressure, it reflects cautious sentiment among professional investors and raises the potential for a short‑squeeze if the company delivers unexpected positive news. The stock remains 42.7% below its 52‑week high of €26.84 and trades above its 52‑week low, with a dividend forecast of €0.113 per share for the current year. Recent quarterly results showed a loss of €1.63 per share and a 13.9% revenue decline to €1.38 billion.
Overall, the market is watching both the modest price recovery and the heightened short‑selling activity for clues about LANXESS’s near‑term trajectory.
