Lanyu Power Plant manager missing after night fishing accident

Search and rescue operations are underway for Wu Chung-yi, the manager of the Lanyu Power Plant, who went missing while night fishing near Tank Rock on Orchid Island.

Wu reportedly lost contact around 9:00 PM on August 25 near the Lanyu Lighthouse. On the morning of August 26, colleagues discovered his motorcycle, mobile phone, and fishing gear abandoned near the shore after he failed to report for work.

A multi-agency response involving the Coast Guard, police, fire departments, and aerial medical services has been deployed. Search efforts include coastal inspections from Tank Rock to the Five Holes area, aerial searches via helicopter, and assistance from local diving instructors.

Due to the rugged terrain and complex currents of the Tank Rock area, family members have requested increased support, including specialized rescue vessels, drones with thermal imaging, and continuous night-time search operations to maximize the window for finding him.
