Lanzarote begins new 2026 hunting season
The 2026 hunting season in Lanzarote and La Graciosa is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 16, starting with rabbit hunting. This activity will run until November 29, with authorized hunting days set for Thursdays and Sundays. Following this, the season for moorland partridge and wood pigeon will commence on September 20 and continue until November 22.
The regulations include specific provisions for the use of dogs, ferrets, and birds of prey, while maintaining strict restrictions in protected natural spaces, Natura 2000 network zones, and sensitive wildlife conservation areas. Additionally, hunters from outside Lanzarote will be subject to a specific regime, limited to a maximum of 25 participants for the season.
This new season follows a period of disruption in Haría last year, where hunting was temporarily suspended due to a wave of poisonings. In August 2025, numerous animals, including dogs, cats, hedgehogs, and birds, were found dead due to toxic baits, leading the Cabildo de Lanzarote to prohibit hunting in various areas for nearly two months.
