Lanzarote: Boat with 20 people reaches Playa Bastián
A wooden boat carrying approximately 20 people arrived at Playa Bastián in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, on Wednesday morning. The arrival was reported at 07:18 following an accidental sighting of an irregular migration vessel approaching the coast.
Most of the individuals on board were subsequently detained by the Guardia Civil. The incident has renewed discussions regarding the effectiveness of the Integrated External Surveillance System (SIVE) in detecting vessels before they reach the shoreline.
Observers note a shift in migration patterns; while direct beach landings on Lanzarote are becoming less frequent, many vessels now contact NGOs or emergency services while still at sea, necessitating maritime rescue operations rather than coastal interventions.
