Lanzarote Cabildo annuls Los Volcanes Natural Park management plan

The Cabildo de Lanzarote has been forced to annul the definitive approval announcement of the Natural Resources Management Plan (PORN) for the Los Volcanes Natural Park. The cancellation occurred just two days after the plan was published in the Provincial Official Gazette (BOP).

The PSOE of Lanzarote criticized the move, labeling it an “institutional ridicule.” The political group stated that the published document was incomplete because it omitted the required legislative annex. Ariagona González, spokesperson for the Socialist Group at the Cabildo, questioned the management of the island government led by Oswaldo Betancort, suggesting the error resulted from rushing the process.

The Los Volcanes Natural Park covers more than 10,158 hectares across the municipalities of Tinajo, Yaiza, and Tías. The PORN is a critical instrument designed to establish criteria for the conservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable use of the area's natural resources.
