Lanzarote officials discuss stalled Congress Palace project

The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) and the Cabildo de Lanzarote have met to address the ongoing delays regarding the construction of the Lanzarote Congress Palace. Beatriz Salazar, president of the CEL, and María Jesús Tovar, vice president of the Cabildo, discussed the obstacles preventing the advancement of this strategic infrastructure.

Proponents argue the facility is essential for diversifying the island's economy, attracting events, and creating opportunities for the hospitality, commerce, and service sectors. Despite the meeting, no concrete timelines or commitments have been established for the project. The representatives agreed to meet again in the coming weeks to evaluate potential progress.

In addition to the Congress Palace, the meeting addressed broader economic concerns facing local businesses, including inflation, rising costs, and the logistical challenges associated with double insularity. Business leaders are calling for reduced bureaucracy and streamlined licensing to support the local economy.
