Lanzarote PSOE demands removal of CACT CEO over nepotism allegations

The PSOE party in Lanzarote is demanding the removal of Ángel Vázquez, the CEO of the Centers for Art, Culture, and Tourism (CACT), following allegations of nepotism. The controversy arose after it was revealed that Vázquez’s son, Gabriel Vázquez Díaz, secured a permanent position through a selection process for cleaning staff.

The selection process, which began in January 2024 to fill 15 permanent roles, concluded with a final resolution signed by Vázquez on November 12, 2025, which included his son among the selected candidates. The PSOE has called on Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort to clarify his knowledge of the process and explain why no measures were taken to address potential conflicts of interest, citing legal requirements for public officials to abstain from procedures involving relatives.
