Lanzarote: Three men detained for alleged sexual assault on migrant vessel
Three men, aged 21, 25, and 30, have been detained in Arrecife following allegations of multiple sexual assaults against a woman aboard a migrant vessel. The incident reportedly occurred on September 16 during the journey to Lanzarote, likely in international waters.
The victim reported the assaults to rescue services upon arrival at the pier. She was subsequently treated at the José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife. The investigation is being led by the National Police's Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM).
Authorities, assisted by Frontex, identified the suspects through the testimony of another passenger. Beyond the sexual assault, emergency services noted that several other occupants arrived on land with physical injuries and bite marks. The rescue operation, conducted by the vessels Ácrux and Al Nair, also recovered three bodies from the sea. While survivors reported ten missing companions, NGOs suggest the number of missing persons may be as high as fourteen.
