Lanzarote waste collection workers call for indefinite strike

Workers in the selective waste collection service in Lanzarote have called for an indefinite strike starting October 13, 2026. The decision was approved unanimously by the workers' assembly and is supported by the CCOO union.

The strike targets Urbaser, the company managing the service, citing a lack of progress in collective bargaining and the alleged failure to uphold labor rights. Key grievances include frozen wages since late 2024, unpaid night shift premiums, and unpaid holiday bonuses.

Labor safety is a major point of contention. The union claims there is a lack of maintenance for vehicles and tools, as well as a need for updated ergonomic and metabolic consumption studies. Additionally, workers are demanding better compliance with mandatory rest periods and the proper provision of work clothing.
