Lao Cai expands agricultural commodity production and processing

Lao Cai is developing specialized commodity agricultural zones, leveraging local strengths and supportive policies. The province has established significant production areas, including 16,082 hectares of tea, 6,555 hectares of medicinal plants, 25,590 hectares of fruit trees, and extensive areas for mulberry and cinnamon.

To increase value, the province has developed over 1,000 agricultural processing facilities. In the mulberry sector, Yen Bai Silk Joint Stock Company operates a factory with an investment of approximately 80 billion VND, providing stable output for local farmers and employing nearly 200 people. Similarly, Yamazaki Vietnam Co., Ltd. supports the production of Bat Do bamboo shoots with a processing capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 tons of fresh shoots per year.

Additionally, authorities are encouraging the development of 53 species of medicinal plants. The Department of Agriculture and Environment is tasked with managing these resources, focusing on forming raw material zones that integrate genetic conservation with production and processing.
