Lao Cai health sector promotes nutrition for women and children

In response to Nutrition and Development Week 2026, health authorities in Lao Cai province are intensifying communication and intervention efforts to improve nutritional quality for women and children. The initiatives specifically target vulnerable groups, including those in remote areas and ethnic minority communities.

Key programs include the “Care for the first 1,000 days of life” model, which focuses on maternal and child care during critical developmental stages. Interventions involve nutritional counseling for pregnant women, breastfeeding guidance, vitamin A supplementation, and the management of acute malnutrition.

In 2026, the province successfully implemented a vitamin A supplementation campaign across 99 communes, reaching over 117,000 children aged 6 months to under 60 months. Additionally, the health sector has conducted 11 training sessions on nutritional assessment and school nutrition to enhance professional capacity for future implementation through 2030.
