Lao Cai implements development policies for ethnic minority regions
Lao Cai province is seeing significant transformations in its ethnic minority regions through targeted socio-economic development programs. As of the 2021–2025 period, the province has met or exceeded 23 out of 32 targets set by the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
In Viet Hong Commune, local residents are actively participating in infrastructure projects under the principle of “the State and the people working together.” Approximately 70 households have voluntarily donated about 6,000 square meters of land and cut down thousands of cinnamon trees to facilitate road expansion. These efforts are part of a larger plan to expand two transport routes totaling 4km with an investment of over 13 billion VND.
While infrastructure, electricity, and clean water access are improving, challenges remain. Ethnic minority groups make up 60.9% of Lao Cai's population, and the poverty rate among these communities remains a critical focus for regional policy and livelihood development.
