Lao Cai police use drug testing to dismantle local trafficking networks

Authorities in Lao Cai province are utilizing frequent and widespread drug testing as a strategic tool to identify risks and manage criminal activity at the local level. In Mo Vang commune, a single positive rapid test led police to uncover a group of three individuals organizing illegal drug use.

Following this investigation, the Lao Cai Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Agency initiated criminal proceedings against Nong Duc Toan, Hoang Dinh Trong Duc, Ha Van Quang, and Bui Quang Tung for organizing illegal drug use. Additionally, Song A Thanh was prosecuted for illegal drug trafficking after being identified as the supplier for the group.

Captain Hoang Dinh Tu, Head of the Mo Vang Commune Police, noted that regular testing of suspected individuals serves as a vital information source to expand investigations and locate drug suppliers. Law enforcement is employing various methods, including urine and saliva tests, as well as hair follicle analysis, to detect long-term drug use and strengthen community drug control efforts.
