Lao Cai resettlement project faces 150m landslide

A landslide spanning approximately 150 meters has occurred at the Ta Pa Cheo village resettlement project in Ban Xeo commune, Lao Cai province. The incident, which occurred during ground leveling work on October 25, has affected about 300 square meters of agricultural land and has approached three nearby houses within a dangerous distance of 5 meters.

The project, which began in 2023 with an investment of over 18 billion VND, aims to provide resettlement for 60 households. Currently, nine households have already moved to the site. Local authorities reported that the project has completed over 70% of its workload, though the road and drainage package is only at 10%.

Initial reports from Ban Xeo commune suggest the project lacked a geological survey component during the investment preparation phase. Local officials cited complex geology, difficult terrain, and unpredictable weather as factors contributing to previous delays. Authorities have inspected the site and installed warning markers to ensure safety.
