LAOS party and Filippos Kambouris face asset seizures in fraud probe

The Greek Anti-Money Laundering Authority has ordered the seizure of assets belonging to the Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) political party and its president, Filippos Kambouris. This marks the first instance of a political party having its assets frozen in such a case.

The investigation follows the arrest and detention of Kambouris, his wife, and several others for an alleged multi-million euro fraud scheme targeting the e-EFKA social security system. Authorities suspect the political party was utilized as a vehicle for money laundering and fraudulent activities.

Under the order issued by Haralampos Vourliotis, the seizure includes assets from 32 companies and 12 individuals. To date, investigators have identified and frozen eight vehicles—four of which belong to the LAOS party—and five real estate properties located in the southern suburbs and other regions of Greece.
