Laos strengthens regional ties for anti-corruption and environmental efforts

Laos is implementing new anti-corruption measures and strengthening bilateral ties with neighboring nations to address governance and environmental challenges.

In Laos, the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party issued a resolution on 20 August to increase transparency and reduce bureaucracy. The plan targets key sectors such as land management, mining, forestry, and public finance. New requirements include mandatory asset and income declarations for officials and the expansion of e-government tools to minimize corruption risks. Additionally, Laos is deepening cooperation with Vietnam to improve inspection mechanisms and build shared digital databases for oversight.

Separately, Thailand and Laos are collaborating to combat transboundary PM2.5 pollution and forest fires. High-level discussions in Bangkok focused on joint environmental monitoring and wildfire prevention strategies. The two nations are also working to advance infrastructure projects, including a bridge designed to enhance cross-border trade and tourism connectivity.
