LAPD arrests 69 in massive South Los Angeles street takeover crackdown

The Los Angeles Police Department conducted a large-scale enforcement action, dubbed ‘Operation Street Sweeper,’ to dismantle illegal street takeovers in South Los Angeles early Saturday morning. The operation targeted a gathering of more than 700 people near South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard.

Utilizing intelligence work and drone surveillance, more than 150 officers moved in to surround the area, preventing participants from scattering. The crackdown resulted in 69 arrests, 570 citations, the impoundment of 200 vehicles, and the recovery of seven firearms.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell emphasized that the event was a criminal matter rather than harmless entertainment, noting that participants were exposed to significant harm. The operation was reportedly months in the making and involved coordinated efforts to anticipate four separate takeover locations.
