LAPD fatally shoots man armed with pole saw in Boyle Heights
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday morning in the Boyle Heights neighborhood. Officers responded to the area of Gillette and Bridge streets around 9:55 a.m. following reports of a man armed with a metal pipe.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect holding a large tree trimmer equipped with a 12-inch serrated blade. According to the LAPD, the individual failed to comply with orders to drop the tool and continued to advance toward the officers. An officer opened fire, striking the man.
The suspect was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officers rendered medical aid at the scene before paramedics arrived. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, and the tree trimmer has been recovered as evidence.
