Lapland police report heavy weekend of disturbances and traffic offenses

Police in Lapland experienced an exceptionally busy weekend marked by significant disturbances and traffic incidents. In Kemi, a large group of approximately one hundred youths gathered for celebrations, resulting in many intoxicated minors being removed from the streets. Police filed over ten child welfare reports following the gatherings, which were also accompanied by reports of assault, vandalism, and traffic offenses.

In Tornio, an ATV driver fled the scene after colliding with two pedestrians at a crosswalk; one person sustained minor injuries. The driver faces suspicion of causing injury, fleeing the scene, and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety. Additionally, in Kittilä, a driver engaged in a high-speed pursuit after evading police during a traffic stop. The pursuit ended when the vehicle became stuck on a forest road, leading to the arrest of two individuals on suspicion of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and driving under the influence.
