Lapland tourism board hides gold bar for treasure hunt

The tourism organization Visit Levi has launched a unique promotional campaign titled ‘The Midnight Sun Hunt’ in the Lapland region of Finland. To encourage summer tourism and outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking, organizers have hidden a real gold bar valued at approximately 20,000 euros (roughly 23,000 USD) within the region’s natural landscape.

Participants are tasked with following a series of clues and riddles released to locate the treasure during the period of the midnight sun, when the sun does not set for 24 hours. To protect the local ecosystem, organizers have implemented strict rules: digging in the soil, damaging trees, or trespassing on private property is strictly prohibited. The gold bar has been placed in a natural location along existing hiking trails to ensure that the search does not require environmental interference.
