Laptop maintenance tips to prevent battery and hardware damage

To maintain laptop performance and extend hardware lifespan, users should avoid several common habits regarding power, charging, and storage.

For daily use, experts recommend plugging the device into a power source when available rather than relying solely on battery mode, which can deplete charge cycles prematurely. Using unbranded or cheap chargers is discouraged as they may provide inconsistent voltage, potentially damaging the motherboard or battery. Additionally, operating laptops on soft surfaces like beds or sofas can block ventilation ports, leading to overheating and processor slowdowns.

When storing a laptop for long periods, it should not be left with a 0% battery charge; instead, maintaining a charge level between 50% and 60% is ideal to preserve battery capacity. Users must also protect devices from moisture and humidity, which can cause oxidation or damage electronic components. Storing the device in a dry, well-ventilated area inside a clean cover is recommended to prevent dust accumulation and environmental damage.
