Laptop use may cause chronic skin lesions
Prolonged use of laptops placed on the lap can lead to a skin condition known as laptop dermatitis. This condition is characterized by red, white, or marbled skin marks, resulting from repeated exposure to moderate heat and infrared radiation.
Dermatologist Dominique Tennstedt describes the condition as a chronic burn that develops gradually rather than a sudden injury. While the lesions are not inherently dangerous, they can cause significant aesthetic concerns. Currently, there is no specific medical treatment available; recovery is a slow process that depends on the age of the lesions and can take several years to resolve.
