L'Aquila announces 2026 Perdonanza Celestiniana program
The 732nd Perdonanza Celestiniana has unveiled its 2026 program, coinciding with L'Aquila's term as the Italian Capital of Culture. Scheduled for August 23–30, the event features a diverse lineup of musical, theatrical, and cultural performances held in the historic center of L'Aquila.
A major highlight is the inaugural ceremony, 'La Forza del Perdono,' which will be broadcast live in prime time on Rai 1 on August 23. The televised event at the Teatro del Perdono will feature an orchestra from the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese and various cultural figures.
In conjunction with the festivities, the Archdiocese of L'Aquila and the 'Fides et Ratio' Institute will host the 5th Historical and Pastoral Conference. The conference, themed 'For a culture of forgiveness: Celestino V between history, pastoral care, and contemporary horizons,' aims to explore the spiritual and cultural legacy of Celestino V and his 1294 Bull of Forgiveness through an interdisciplinary lens.
