L’Aquila completes new cycling network and electric bus charging infrastructure

L’Aquila has expanded its sustainable mobility infrastructure through two major projects funded by the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan).

A new cycling network totaling approximately 8.5 kilometers has been completed. This network connects the city's railway station, the Lorenzo Natali bus terminal, and several major university sites, including the Coppito campus. Of the total distance, 7 kilometers utilize existing roads with dedicated signage, while 1.3 kilometers consist of reserved paths with specialized paving.

Additionally, the Lorenzo Natali bus terminal has implemented new charging infrastructure for electric public transport buses. Supported by a 1 million euro investment, the facility now includes a 150 kW charging station capable of powering two buses simultaneously, along with dedicated charging tunnels and an upgraded electrical transformation cabin. These developments aim to facilitate the transition toward more sustainable urban transport and improve connectivity for students and commuters.
