Abruzzo signs five‑year partnership with Italian Space Agency to boost regional aerospace sector

The Abruzzo regional aerospace district, established in 2025 with support from Leonardo, Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio, signed a five‑year framework agreement with the Italian Space Agency. The pact aims to develop joint projects for Earth observation, autonomous navigation and the integration of satellite data into regional services. Initiatives highlighted include the Digital Twin of Abruzzo, which combines satellite imagery, ground sensors and AI to monitor seismic, hydro‑geological risks and coastal erosion, as well as the creation of a shared Space Lab and an Academy linking local universities and schools to address skill shortages.

The district, which now encompasses large groups, SMEs, startups and research centres and employs over 5,000 people in the region, will use the agreement to strengthen collaborations, expand the regional technology catalogue and foster new applications for agriculture, environmental monitoring and infrastructure planning.
