L'Aquila hospital launches psychological support for breast cancer patients

A new psychological support service has been launched for breast cancer patients at the senological surgery department of San Salvatore Hospital in L'Aquila. The initiative, part of the hospital's Breast Unit, aims to assist women in managing the disease and their subsequent treatment paths.

The service was made possible through a 10,000 euro scholarship funded by the association ‘Salute donna’. This funding allowed for the selection of psychologist Chiara Liberatore to provide support. While initially focused on patients awaiting hospitalization, the free service will soon be available to all women who request it through individual consultations designed to help them navigate their medical journey alongside doctors.

Maria Rita Liaci, president of the L'Aquila section of ‘Salute donna’, emphasized that psychological well-being is as fundamental as surgical and oncological expertise. Paolo Costanzi, Manager of ASL 1 Abruzzo, expressed appreciation for the association's role in strengthening public health services.
