L'Aquila hosts exhibition dedicated to Piersanti Mattarella
A photographic exhibition titled ‘Il sogno spezzato. L'orizzonte politico e familiare di Piersanti Mattarella’ has opened at the Abruzzo Regional Council in L'Aquila. Organized by Banca del Fucino in collaboration with Fondazione Sicilia and Sicily Art & Culture, the event commemorates the life and legacy of the former President of the Sicilian Region, who was assassinated by the mafia on January 6, 1980.
The exhibition features approximately 150 to 200 photographs, many of which are previously unpublished items from family archives. The collection traces Mattarella’s journey from the 1940s through his political ascent, highlighting his commitment to democracy, transparency, and public service. The display includes historical images of Mattarella alongside figures such as Aldo Moro, Sandro Pertini, and Popes Pius XII and John XXIII, alongside private family moments.
In addition to photography, the exhibition includes texts by biographer Giovanni Grasso and personal items. The event was attended by various regional officials and family members, including Mattarella’s grandson, who noted the exhibition’s ability to capture the human dimension of his grandfather’s life.
