L'Aquila hosts international conference on truffle industry and ecosystem protection
The University of L'Aquila and the MeSVA Department hosted the 2nd International Truffle Conference at Palazzo Camponeschi. The event gathered over 50 researchers and stakeholders from seven European countries to discuss the protection of truffle ecosystems and the development of the industry.
Emanuele Imprudente, Vice President of the Abruzzo Regional Council for Agriculture, emphasized the importance of the truffle sector for the region's economy and internal areas. He noted that 40% of the regional territory is under protection, necessitating stronger cooperation between truffle harvesters, parks, and institutions.
To support the sector, the Abruzzo Region has announced several financial measures. This includes 50,000 euros for municipalities to promote truffle activities and 1 million euros through the CSR Abruzzo 2023-2027 program for reforestation, afforestation, and agroforestry systems using mycorrhizal tree species.
