L’Aquila hosts Perdonanza Celestiniana historical procession and charity run

The 732nd Perdonanza Celestiniana in L’Aquila features the central ‘Corteo della Bolla’ procession, scheduled for August 28. The event includes approximately 1,700 participants, including 800 people in medieval historical attire from various Italian cities such as Siena, Rieti, and Assisi. The procession commemorates the document issued by Pope Celestine V in 1294. Notable additions include a banner embroidered by artist Marinella Senatore and participation from students involved in the ‘A scuola di Perdonanza 3’ project.

Additionally, the Atletica L’Aquila is organizing the 47th Campestrina della Perdonanza on August 27 at the Centi Colella sports facility. This athletic event is part of the ‘L’Aquila insieme per lo sport 2026’ initiative, with all registration proceeds being donated to support the population of Venezuela following recent earthquake damage.
