L'Aquila invests in new cycling loop and road improvements across Marsica

The municipal administration of L'Aquila has begun construction of a 4.5‑kilometre cycling‑pedestrian loop that will link the Guardia di Finanza area with the archaeological site of Amiternum. The project, funded with €500,000 from the city budget, includes a new path, a rest area, an interchange parking lot and a safety crossing on State Road 80, and is being carried out in partnership with the National Museum of Abruzzo. Municipal mobility assessor Paola Giuliani said the work “represents another step forward in building a sustainable mobility network.”

At the provincial level, the Province of L'Aquila launched two road‑works contracts totaling more than €3.1 million in the Marsica region. The first contract (€862 k) stabilises the valley side of provincial road 89 “Dorsale Palentina” near Sante Marie, while the second (€2.29 million) repaves sections of regional road 579 “Palentina”, provincial road 23 “Alto Liri” and related branches through Capistrello, Tagliacozzo, Castellafiume and Cappadocia. Provincial president Angelo Caruso said that “investing in road safety is investing in the competitiveness of our territories,” highlighting the aim to improve safety and traffic flow.
