L’Aquila officials address art acquisition and public housing tenders

In L’Aquila, local councilor Stefania Pezzopane has issued an urgent appeal to the municipality to acquire three significant paintings by artist Marcello Mariani. The works, titled ‘Inferno’, ‘Purgatorio’, and ‘Paradiso’, are inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. While art critic Gabriele Simongini valued the triptych at 570,000 euros, Pezzopane suggests they could potentially be acquired for approximately 50,000 euros, presenting a unique opportunity to secure the heritage for the city ahead of its year as the Italian Capital of Culture in 2026.

Separately, the L’Aquila Territorial Agency for Residential Construction (Ater) has released the 2026 call for applications for public residential housing (Erp). Applications must be submitted online via the municipality’s social tenders platform by December 14, 2026. Specific deadlines apply to workers who have emigrated: February 12, 2027, for those in European countries, and March 14, 2027, for those residing outside of Europe. The initiative is linked to ongoing post-earthquake reconstruction and energy requalification efforts for the province's real estate.
