L'Aquila Theatre Receives €1 Million for Reopening

The Italian government body CIPESS approved a new allocation of €1 million to complete fire‑safety upgrades, finishes and systems at the Teatro Comunale dell’Aquila, bringing total restoration funding to €15 million. The investment follows earlier allocations of €9 million from CIPE and CIPESS and €5 million from the Ministry of Culture’s strategic projects plan, aiming to reopen the historic venue damaged by the 2009 earthquake.

At the same time, the city’s Social Policies Department is hosting a free public event, “Sguardi urbani, L'Aquila ritrovata,” on 6 August at the Tempera Cultural Centre. Organized by the Associazione Novecento and led by photographer Luca Del Monaco, the initiative uses photography to explore the post‑seismic urban landscape and foster community participation. Officials highlighted that the project “offers citizens a chance to experience the city differently, using photography as a tool for inclusion and awareness.”
