L’Aquila to host 78th Prix Italia international media competition

L’Aquila will host the 78th edition of the Prix Italia from September 28 to October 2, 2026. Organized by Rai, this international competition focuses on radio, television, and multimedia content. For the first time in its history, the event will be held in the Abruzzo capital, which is also designated as the Italian Capital of Culture for 2026.

The theme for the 2026 edition is ‘Play Human,’ which explores the relationship between human creativity and technological advancements, including artificial intelligence. New Zealand director and choreographer Corey Baker will serve as the president of the competition.

The event is expected to involve over 100 broadcasting organizations from approximately 90 countries. The program will include various meetings, premieres, and shows at venues such as the Auditorium del Parco ‘Renzo Piano’ and the Teatro San Filippo. Featured participants include Sky Italia and various Rai productions, with discussions also planned regarding disinformation and the evolution of media languages.
