Lara Gut‑Behrami retires from alpine skiing

Swiss alpine‑ski star Lara Gut‑Behrami announced her retirement at age 35. In a statement released to the Swiss broadcaster RSI she said she was fortunate to have enjoyed a long career and no longer wanted to push her body beyond its limits after a severe knee injury.

The injury, sustained in November 2025 during a training run at Copper Mountain in the United States, tore the anterior cruciate ligament, the medial collateral ligament and the meniscus of her left knee. It forced her to miss the 2025/26 World‑Cup season and the 2026 Milan‑Cortina Winter Olympics. She also ruled out a hoped‑for appearance at the 2027 home World Championships in Crans‑Montana.

Gut‑Behrami’s résumé includes Olympic gold in the super‑G at the 2022 Beijing Games, two overall World‑Cup titles (2016, 2024), 48 World‑Cup race wins – the second‑most for a Swiss woman – 101 podiums, nine World‑Championship medals and three Olympic medals. She will remain involved in the sport as an ambassador and advisor for her long‑time partner Ka‑Ex.
