Lara Somogyi releases experimental harp album ‘a [time] patterned’

American harpist and composer Lara Somogyi has released her second full-length album, titled ‘a [time] patterned’, via Mercury KX. The 11-track project is a blend of ambient, experimental, and modern classical genres, utilizing tape loops, delay effects, and repetitive structural forms to explore themes of time, memory, and grief.

Developed alongside producer Cyrus Reynolds, the album serves as a personal reflection on the death of Somogyi’s father. The compositions use unconventional harp techniques and electronics to represent emotions as recurring structures rather than linear journeys. The record incorporates organic field recordings, including birdsong from Somogyi’s birthplace in Kauai.

Collaborators on the album include Rob Moose, known for his work with Bon Iver, and cellist Clarice Jensen. The lead single, ‘sojourn’, features harp, strings, and granular processing to create an expansive, introspective soundscape.
