Lara State seeks tougher animal cruelty laws in Venezuela

The Lara State Government in Venezuela has ordered a review of regional and institutional legal frameworks to increase penalties for animal abuse and cruelty. This initiative follows public outcry regarding a zoophilia case in the La Carucieña sector of Barquisimeto, where a suspect was released shortly after arrest due to existing legal loopholes.

Governor Luis Reyes Reyes expressed rejection of these acts of violence and stated that authorities are working to create a more rigorous sanctioning scheme. As part of a preventive measure, the government announced the deployment of psychological teams to evaluate vulnerable individuals and those experiencing homelessness. The goal is to identify violent behaviors early to protect both animals and citizens.
