Laramie County Sheriff's Office reports 538 immigration arrests
The Laramie County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) has conducted 538 arrests for federal immigration violations over the past year. According to spokesperson Brandon Warner, these arrests resulted from traffic stops involving state law violations. The agency noted that deputies are prohibited from performing immigration inquiries during routine calls at schools, job sites, or private residences.
As part of the 287(g) program, the LCSO has also removed 72 undocumented commercial truck drivers from local roads through operations such as “Truck Around and Find Out.” This initiative was launched following complaints regarding unsafe and unlicensed drivers bypassing ports of entry.
Sheriff Kozak attributed a significant drop in property crime in unincorporated areas to these enforcement practices. Current property crime levels in these areas are reportedly 67% below the national average, with a noted decrease in offenders traveling from Colorado to commit crimes in the county.
