Larch Hills wildfire near Salmon Arm brought under control
A wildfire known as the East Canoe Creek blaze, covering approximately 0.3 hectares, was brought under control on Wednesday, September 23, near Salmon Arm on Larch Hills. The fire was spotted by BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) personnel at a local Rapattack base.
Emergency response involved a coordinated effort between the BC Wildfire Service and the Salmon Arm Fire Department, which utilized a truck from Hall to assist with water deliveries. The fire was reported as being held shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, with crews departing the mountain by 8 p.m.
Salmon Arm Fire Chief Carmen Guidos stated that the fire is believed to have been human-caused. While the blaze was quickly extinguished, Guidos noted that persisting dry conditions remain a concern, and a ban remains in effect for most activities except for campfires.
