Large fire damages former slaughterhouse warehouse in Cruzeiro, São Paulo
A major blaze erupted on Sunday afternoon at a warehouse of the former slaughterhouse on Voluntários Paulistas Street in the 1º Retiro da Mantiqueira neighborhood of Cruzeiro, São Paulo. The fire produced thick dark smoke visible across several city districts, prompting the activation of the local fire department and support from the Military Police, which cordoned off the area for public safety.
Firefighters worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other structures of the inactive complex. As of the report, no injuries or fatalities had been recorded. The cause of the fire remains unidentified pending a technical investigation by forensic experts.
Authorities advised residents to stay clear of the isolated zone to allow emergency vehicles unobstructed access. Water consumption for the operation was about 700 liters, and the fire was brought under control within a short period, with ongoing monitoring to avoid re‑ignition.
