Large Hadron Collider research rules out specific quantum black holes
Physicists using the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have expanded their search for microscopic quantum black holes. Researchers from the University of California, Santa Barbara, developed a new methodology to detect novel particles by analyzing proton-proton collisions, a technique that can be applied beyond black hole searches.
While the study has ruled out the existence of quantum black holes with specific characteristics, researchers note that the negative results provide essential scientific data. The investigation explores the hypothesis that sufficient energy and extra spatial dimensions could allow for the momentary creation of these unstable objects. The findings help establish concrete limits on theoretical models and guide future experimental searches at CERN.
