Large rock strikes car in Jernfjelltunnelen on E39
A large rock, described as being the size of a washing machine, struck a car inside the Jernfjelltunnelen on the E39 highway in Gulen and Masfjorden. The incident occurred around 15:30, involving a man and a woman in their 20s, believed to be foreign tourists, and a dog.
Police operations leader Knut Dahl-Michelsen noted that the occupants were extremely lucky, as the rock hit the hood rather than the windshield. While the vehicle was rendered unroadworthy due to heavy damage, the injuries reported by the passengers were not considered serious, though they experienced upper body pain and one individual may have ingested glass.
The tunnel was closed following the incident to clear the wreckage. Authorities advised passenger cars to use detours via Solheimslia and county road 571, though these routes were not suitable for heavy trucks.
