Largo expands metal production at Maracás Menchen mine in Bahia

Largo has received authorization from Brazil’s National Mining Agency (ANM) to produce and sell several metals as by-products from its Maracás Menchen mine in Bahia. The approved metals include copper, platinum, gold, palladium, silver, cobalt, and nickel.

The company is leveraging its existing vanadium processing infrastructure and flotation circuits to recover these minerals from ore that was previously not commercially recovered. To facilitate this transition, Largo has temporarily suspended the production of ilmenite (titanium) concentrate to prioritize the ramp-up of copper and platinum group metal (PGM) concentrates.

Largo expects that these new concentrates may offer higher profit margins than ilmenite. The company intends to utilize its current mining activities and installed infrastructure to implement this capital-efficient strategy.
