Lari Pittman explores political iconography through large-scale painting

American painter Lari Pittman continues to develop his series of large-scale works that blend ornamentation with politically charged iconography. His recent series, ‘The Remedy of Analog Space & Time’, utilizes layers of acrylic and spray paint to create dense compositions featuring text, logos, plants, and architectural fragments.

Pittman’s work has gained significant international recognition through major exhibitions. In 2024, the Long Museum in Shanghai hosted ‘Magic Realism’, the first comprehensive museum survey of his work in Asia, featuring over 30 pieces from the previous twelve years. Other notable exhibitions include the ‘Declaration of Independence’ retrospective at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

His paintings are held in prominent collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Since the 1980s, Pittman has been recognized as a major voice in US painting, using his serial approach to explore themes of identity and social order.
