Larissa: 13-year-old seriously injured in mountain biking accident

A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition at the University Hospital of Larissa following a mountain biking accident in Portaria. The youth reportedly struck a tree while cycling, resulting in a severe neck injury.

After receiving initial treatment at a hospital in Volos, medical professionals determined that the severity of the injury and the patient's age required a transfer to Larissa. To prevent further damage to the neck, the patient was transported via a specialized air medical unit. A neurosurgical team at the University Hospital performed surgery late Sunday night. Reports indicate the boy's condition remains very serious, with indications that the injury may result in quadriplegia.
